Remembering

I looked at Scott on April 30th and asked him if he remembered what happened a year ago that day?  He couldn't remember...

It was a Friday and we were sitting at a table selling our house.  Such a bittersweet day.  Knowing we were moving on to a new chapter in our lives was so very exciting yet scary and then selling our first house.  The house we worked hard to purchase and were looking forward to living in for years and starting a family in.

After living in Charleston for a year now I can 90% say it was the right move for us.  Yes, we had to take a few steps backwards.  Yes, there were a lot of tears along the way.  Yes, there were a lot of "are we sure this is the right thing" and "things happen for a reason".  There were even a few "lets throw in the towel and move back to Orlando".

One year later though we love it here and call Charleston home :)  It is such a beautiful city with character, history, and so much going on.

We took some time to look back and remember the last year and realize where we are now from our experience.  It really made us appreciate what we have and where we are going in life.  It also made us realize the goals we have can be accomplished anywhere as long as we keep working towards them.  They may not happen in the time frame we originally wanted but they can still be accomplished!

We both now have stable jobs that we like.  We live 15 minutes from the beach (which we LOVE).  We don't freeze in the winter.  Life is good :)

That 10% that I'm not sure about....the whole hurricane thing makes me a little uneasy and we haven't lived through one of those yet.  Also, people in the south are different and its taking some getting use to - its not a bad thing its just different.

Weekend of Celebrating!!!!

This weekend was spent celebrating my new JOB!!! I am the Sales and Marketing Coordinator for TorqTek, a gear manufacturing company. I have been there for 2 weeks now and really like what I am doing.

Scott took me on a date night on Friday. He made reservation at a great Sushi restaurant downtown, O' Ku. It was our first time going to the restaurant and we will for sure going back. After dinner we went for desert at Cupcake. It was a nice night out for a good occasion :)

Saturday we a day spent outside exploring Wadmalaw Island. It is an island about 30 min. for us. Our first stop was at the Angle Oak - it is a 1500 year old Angle Oak tree. We were amazed by the site of the tree.

Our next stop was wine tasting and the Firefly Distillery. They have "Sippin' Saturday" where they have music and food vendors. We did some vodka tastings, wine tastings, and relaxing in the great weather.

On our drive home from the tastings we found a U-pick strawberry patch. Which of course we had to stop. We picked a bag full of strawberries and ate about half of them on the way home!

Saturday night we went to the Charleston Battery soccer game - it was their season opener. We tailgated before the game with Scott's soccer team and then enjoyed the fireworks after the game.

A year ago this weekend we were in Charleston looking for apartments to move.

Scott and I were reminiscing yesterday about how much has changed in the past year. We also couldn't believe we have lived in Charleston for almost a year. CrAzY!!!!! I still feel like we just moved here and are pretty new.

We are excited to continue our journey in South Carolina!!

It is a busy weekend here on Daniel Island and Charleston as a whole. The Family Circle Cup starts today and lasts a week. This is the biggest women's only tennis tournament in the world. This year one of the Williams sister is playing so they are expecting even more people than normal. We had to get a special parking pass to be able to park and be on the island. Scott scored some tickets for us so we will be heading up to watch some tennis in a few minutes here. Scott told me to pick out my most ridiculous looking outfit and to keep my mouth shut...hahaha...don't know how that is going to work out.

This morning there was a Daniel Island Easter egg hurt for kids and over 400 kids signed up for the hut. 400...I didn't even know there were 400 kids on the island. Needless to say we stayed inside this morning. We did think about going out last night to have our own Easter egg hunt and find a few of the kids eggs...hahaha :)

The third crazy thing happening in Charleston is the Cooper River Bridge Run. 43,000 people come to Charlestons to run over the Ravenel Bridge - this is the huge bridge connecting Mt. Pleasant to downtown Charleston. So we are also staying away from Mt. Pleasant and downtown today.

While reminiscing we remembered all these things going on last year while we were trying to find a place to live. Streets were closed...you needed special access to get to some places...and there was just A LOT of people everywhere. Which made one of us (me) not so sure they wanted to move here. Now I think how much I like living here and how we call it home!!!

Beachin' It

Us Southern Baker's are ready for beach season to be here already....

Last weekend we went to the beach Friday night and Sunday.

Friday we decided to head to the beach for a nice evening picnic and relaxing when Scott got home from work. So, we packed up a cooler, a blanket, and NO jackets or sweatshirts. We were convinced it was nice enough to go in shorts and t-shirts. Oh boy were we wrong....We got to the beach set everything up and ate. About 10 minutes after being done we looked and each other shivering and decided we had enough of that. It was so windy and cold :(

Saturday we planned on going to Folly Beach for their Surf and Sand Festival but it was on and off rain and wind so we decided to stay home and relax.

Folly Beach's Festival continued through Sunday with a surf competition and sand castle building. We packed up the car for a morning at the beach. Once again....we got out to the beach and wished we had brought long pants and sweatshirts. Scott ventured out to surf for about 15 minutes before coming back in with blue lips, while I sat reading bundled up in towels. It really was a nice day minus the wind...the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky but with the wind blowing it was a little cold to be trying to sun bathe.

So, as you can tell we are really itching to be spending our weekends at the beach!!!!

Work Trip

Scott has been working a lot and traveling quite a bit. The traveling he has been doing are 1 -3 night stays places close by....nothing crazy. No Idaho...No alligators...No diving...

So last week I got to go along :) He had to go to Beaufort, SC which is about 1.5 hours away and on the water. It is really close to Hilton Head. It was a new South Carolina city we had never been to before. It was a great city to visit for a few days. Small downtown...islands all around...historical. It had a nice "river" walk that I took advantage of both for walking and reading.

We have been pretty much bbq/roast roasted out the past few weekends. We are getting to the end of roaster season so everyone is getting their fill until next year.

Our 5k training is going really good. We are up to running 15 min. We still have about a month and a half till the race.

Fun Few Weekends

Scott sent this picture to me when he was walking to work one morning...poor guy :)

We have had a few great weekends the past few weeks.

Two weekends ago we went to Greenville to watch Andrew and the Spartan's play baseball. My parents were lucky enough to be able to drive down for the long weekend too. It was fun to be able to spend a few days with them (wish it was more). Winter finally decided to come to South Carolina and it was freezing. We were bundled up head to to toe all three days.

Scott and I had never been to Greenville so it was fun to check out a new city in South Carolina. Even though we were cold we decided it was a nice city and will be going back there when it is warmer out.

This past weekend was suppose to be a fun (haha) filled soccer weekend...which turned into a cold, wet, windy weekend. Scott is finishing up his indoor soccer season but the Friday game was changed to this Tuesday. Then, Saturday we were suppose to go watch the Chicago Fire, DC United, Columbus Crew, and Charleston Battery play. We tailgated from 1-6 all to find out the games were cancelled due to weather. Scott was then suppose to have an outdoor game on Sunday which was also cancelled due to weather. Needless to say we spent this weekend cold and wet.

We signed up for a 5k and have been training for that. The 5k we signed up for is in Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville is known for its microbrew beers (which we love) so we figured what a great reason to head that way. Run a 5k, explore a new city and drink.....

Other than that Scott has been working A LOT. I found out that I can collect unemployment (which was very exciting to us) and am looking for that job. The cold weather has officially decided to show up...we have been freezing the past few weeks. We have also had crazy winds.

Blue Skies

We finally had to turn our heat on last night :( Sad but true....We are in the 20s...who would have thought. We are definitely not complaining though since the sun is still out and the skies are still blue. The wind however is crazy and makes it feel so much colder than it is.

We had such a nice relaxing weekend. As Scott said "This weekend was much needed" (he has been quite busy at work). Friday we went up to the Daniel Island Grille for happy hour and free oysters. We then headed to our favorite spot Dublin Down.

Saturday we got up and went kayaking in a local creek. I bought a Groupon awhile back for a buy one get one free rental. So, we packed a lunch and headed to the creek. The skies were blue and the sun was out but boy was the wind blowing. Needless to say we got a workout in paddling :) It was a great day to be out on the water. Saturday night we used another Groupon and went out for a Valentines dinner. We headed downtown to The Library.

Sunday was nice and relaxing (like it should be)!!

I may have a little problem purchasing Groupons....My excuse is we are new to the city and we probably wouldn't do some of these things if we didn't get them....hahaha

The job search is in full swing. The house hunt has been put on hold for a bit. That's about all the news we have going on here.

I did decide though last week you really can get a lot more done when you don't work 40 hours a week. I told Scott that and he looked at me and said "don't get use to it" hahaha :) Love him and all his support!

When will our ?s get answered?

We keep asking WHY these things keep happening it to us...yet once again something has happened that we didn't have planned.

I lost my "temp-perm" position.

We both believe things happen for a reason and we both know things will eventually work out BUT when???? We continue to keep our heads up and moving forward but I won't say we aren't frustrated. It just seems like we take 2 steps forward and then 1 step back.

Enough complaining...

We are so fortunate that Scott has a good job and we know it could be worse so I say thanks daily for what we have.

Scott was out of town this past week. He was working on a project in Columbia. We had a pretty quite weekend at home. We did start the house search again today!! We went out and looked at some houses. Boy is it going to be rough finding a house in Charleston. There are a lot more "good" areas here than in Florida. We will be seeing a lot of houses before we find the perfect one for us.

Scott is in the office this week and am job searching this week :)

Utah....Snowbasin

We got a FUN Christmas present from Scott's parents....a long weekend to Utah to ski/snowboard. We had a great time with good laughs!! We all came back with no broken bones too :)

We left Thursday after work and got home late Monday. We went to Snowbasin which is about a hour north east of Salt Lake City. It was absolutely breath taking there. These pictures don't to it justice at all....

We stayed on an island....ate dinner in a covered wagon...and got 24 inches of snow in ONE day....

We had a great time getting away and spending time with family :)

We came home to Scott's skis not making the flight and a broken "new" hot water heater....I'd rather be on vacation still...

Solid Foods

Last week was a very LONG rough week for us....

After coming home from work last Tuesday we both realized we had tummy aches all day....little did we know we had a stomach virus :( (YES both of us) We were both down for the count from Tuesday night till Thursday. We were in Urgent Care Wednesday for about 2 hours getting an IV of fluid and blood work done. All came out fine and we were sent home to sleep, rest, and hydrate.

We finally started eating Friday! Needless to say our weekend was a lot more laying around and resting. It was a great weekend to have nothing planned but putting away Christmas stuff.

Other than that its the same old thing......

Happy New Year!!!!

OH 2011 I can not tell you how glad I am that you have come and gone. I am so ready for a new year and a fresh start!!! 2011 went by way too fast and had several BIG changes in our life.

Christmas was more than fun this year. My parents and brother came down for a few days and we had a GREAT time!!!!
We got to show them the new city we live in. We spent Christmas day in our pjs enjoying the time together. The boys got the go fishing on Monday (it was their Christmas present). While the boys were fishing the girls were out getting a pedi and lunch! We took them to a local oyster roast and taught them how to schuck oysters...which we all had a great time doing!!!! Of course we spent one day down town enjoying historical Charleston.

Their trip went by too fast but it was great to be with them over the Holiday. We can't wait to see you in February!!!!!

Scott and I headed South to Orlando to bring in 2012. We had not been back since we moved so we thought what a good way to bring in a new year. It was great to catch up and see some great friends. We went to dinner and to a bar to watch the ball drop. At about 12:05 we looked at each other and decided it was time to go back to the house and head to bed...how priorities have changed.

We are both ready for 2012 and what it has to bring us. We are crossing our fingers that it is not as stressful as 2011 was. While on our drive to and from Orlando we made our list and goals of 2012....should be a good year ;)

We wish all of our family and friends a Happy New Year and a wonderful 2012!!!!
