Remembering

I looked at Scott on April 30th and asked him if he remembered what happened a year ago that day?  He couldn't remember...

It was a Friday and we were sitting at a table selling our house.  Such a bittersweet day.  Knowing we were moving on to a new chapter in our lives was so very exciting yet scary and then selling our first house.  The house we worked hard to purchase and were looking forward to living in for years and starting a family in.

After living in Charleston for a year now I can 90% say it was the right move for us.  Yes, we had to take a few steps backwards.  Yes, there were a lot of tears along the way.  Yes, there were a lot of "are we sure this is the right thing" and "things happen for a reason".  There were even a few "lets throw in the towel and move back to Orlando".

One year later though we love it here and call Charleston home :)  It is such a beautiful city with character, history, and so much going on.

We took some time to look back and remember the last year and realize where we are now from our experience.  It really made us appreciate what we have and where we are going in life.  It also made us realize the goals we have can be accomplished anywhere as long as we keep working towards them.  They may not happen in the time frame we originally wanted but they can still be accomplished!

We both now have stable jobs that we like.  We live 15 minutes from the beach (which we LOVE).  We don't freeze in the winter.  Life is good :)

That 10% that I'm not sure about....the whole hurricane thing makes me a little uneasy and we haven't lived through one of those yet.  Also, people in the south are different and its taking some getting use to - its not a bad thing its just different.

Weekend of Celebrating!!!!

This weekend was spent celebrating my new JOB!!! I am the Sales and Marketing Coordinator for TorqTek, a gear manufacturing company. I have been there for 2 weeks now and really like what I am doing.

Scott took me on a date night on Friday. He made reservation at a great Sushi restaurant downtown, O' Ku. It was our first time going to the restaurant and we will for sure going back. After dinner we went for desert at Cupcake. It was a nice night out for a good occasion :)

Saturday we a day spent outside exploring Wadmalaw Island. It is an island about 30 min. for us. Our first stop was at the Angle Oak - it is a 1500 year old Angle Oak tree. We were amazed by the site of the tree.

Our next stop was wine tasting and the Firefly Distillery. They have "Sippin' Saturday" where they have music and food vendors. We did some vodka tastings, wine tastings, and relaxing in the great weather.

On our drive home from the tastings we found a U-pick strawberry patch. Which of course we had to stop. We picked a bag full of strawberries and ate about half of them on the way home!

Saturday night we went to the Charleston Battery soccer game - it was their season opener. We tailgated before the game with Scott's soccer team and then enjoyed the fireworks after the game.

A year ago this weekend we were in Charleston looking for apartments to move.

Scott and I were reminiscing yesterday about how much has changed in the past year. We also couldn't believe we have lived in Charleston for almost a year. CrAzY!!!!! I still feel like we just moved here and are pretty new.

We are excited to continue our journey in South Carolina!!

It is a busy weekend here on Daniel Island and Charleston as a whole. The Family Circle Cup starts today and lasts a week. This is the biggest women's only tennis tournament in the world. This year one of the Williams sister is playing so they are expecting even more people than normal. We had to get a special parking pass to be able to park and be on the island. Scott scored some tickets for us so we will be heading up to watch some tennis in a few minutes here. Scott told me to pick out my most ridiculous looking outfit and to keep my mouth shut...hahaha...don't know how that is going to work out.

This morning there was a Daniel Island Easter egg hurt for kids and over 400 kids signed up for the hut. 400...I didn't even know there were 400 kids on the island. Needless to say we stayed inside this morning. We did think about going out last night to have our own Easter egg hunt and find a few of the kids eggs...hahaha :)

The third crazy thing happening in Charleston is the Cooper River Bridge Run. 43,000 people come to Charlestons to run over the Ravenel Bridge - this is the huge bridge connecting Mt. Pleasant to downtown Charleston. So we are also staying away from Mt. Pleasant and downtown today.

While reminiscing we remembered all these things going on last year while we were trying to find a place to live. Streets were closed...you needed special access to get to some places...and there was just A LOT of people everywhere. Which made one of us (me) not so sure they wanted to move here. Now I think how much I like living here and how we call it home!!!

Beachin' It

Us Southern Baker's are ready for beach season to be here already....

Last weekend we went to the beach Friday night and Sunday.

Friday we decided to head to the beach for a nice evening picnic and relaxing when Scott got home from work. So, we packed up a cooler, a blanket, and NO jackets or sweatshirts. We were convinced it was nice enough to go in shorts and t-shirts. Oh boy were we wrong....We got to the beach set everything up and ate. About 10 minutes after being done we looked and each other shivering and decided we had enough of that. It was so windy and cold :(

Saturday we planned on going to Folly Beach for their Surf and Sand Festival but it was on and off rain and wind so we decided to stay home and relax.

Folly Beach's Festival continued through Sunday with a surf competition and sand castle building. We packed up the car for a morning at the beach. Once again....we got out to the beach and wished we had brought long pants and sweatshirts. Scott ventured out to surf for about 15 minutes before coming back in with blue lips, while I sat reading bundled up in towels. It really was a nice day minus the wind...the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky but with the wind blowing it was a little cold to be trying to sun bathe.

So, as you can tell we are really itching to be spending our weekends at the beach!!!!
